It is known as the GRID system and the positions of the buttons map to the QWERTY, ASDF keys, so it is a much more effective way to play the game and it doesn't take a lot of time to get used to it and a lot of modern RTS games use this system. The new system used by AoF has actually been around for quite awhile. So I had to wait till I was in-game and tried something and it didnt work to look down at the keys and see what I was pressing. In fact, I didnt even KNOW what some of the hotkeys are to reset them.I just do them by reflex lol. In the end, while the newer 'grid' system might be more efficient, it's impossible for me to retrain 15 years of muscle-memory. I had the same initial adaptation experience but really grew to like it fast, so I would highly recommend giving the new system a chance. ![]() ![]() In any case, it is a much quicker way to go back with the caveat that you may not have proper hotkeys in AoF once you've set them up. Forgotten Empires uses a grid hotkey system.Īt the top of the file are the original definitions, so all you have to do is remove the bottom set (referenced above) from en-language.txt, and then run the game, go into AoK options to restore your original hotkeys.
